Hedge cutting/laying

Small or large hedges may be cut or laid. Hedges are ideally trimmed so that they are wider at the bottom and tapered to the top.

Generally trimming is best carried out in August or after flowering, depending on the species. If the hedge is to be laid it is best done in the dormant season, Laying a hedge helps to make it thick and impenetrable as well as looking attractive, although probably more suitable for rural areas.
